Nighttime Adventure

Elizabeth spent the night with Isaac's parents after driving up to Fergus Falls with them to watch Isaac's cousin star in The Sound of Music. (She loved it. She'll be glad to demonstrate "A Few of My Favorite Things" for you if you ask!)

That meant Isaac and I were down to one kid for the night - one kid who woke up at 10:00 and couldn't get back to sleep. After pacing the house with her for a while, I had the brilliant idea to take a nighttime walk outside with my husband as my sweet baby drifted off to sleep peacefully in my arms.

Right.

You know the drought we've been in for months now? How it basically hasn't rained in four weeks? Uh-huh. We got two long blocks from home and it started to rain. I pivoted around, held Amelie close, and charged for home as fast as I could speedwalk. Isaac whipped off his shirt and held it over Amelie as we went. (I thought that was really heroic of him.)

And Amelie? Well, she neither cried nor drifted off to sleep peacefully. She loved it! She clapped her hands. She flapped her arms. She twisted around to get her head out from under the protective shirt. By the time we got back home, she was wide awake and having the time of her life.

P.S. Amelie reluctantly fell asleep around 11:30. Brilliant idea, Allison.

In theory it sounds like an excellent idea! I'll have to keep it in the arsenal. :)
