Time to Chat

My natural tendency is to guard my time pretty carefully, planning activities in advance and sticking to our routine. God has been teaching me that His people are more important than my schedule, and I've been purposefully trying to take the opportunities He gives me.

And you know what? It's been pretty fun. I've stayed outside talking to our neighbors instead of making dinner when I usually do. I've enjoyed chatting with our renter instead of showing up as early for Bible Study as I like. And tonight I hung out in our park speaking Spanish instead of running home for bedtime.

Life has felt more laid-back lately. I've been able to connect with more people and enjoyed relaxed conversations with them. To my surprise, my kids have not fallen apart, even thought their mealtimes have gotten shoved around and their bedtimes are not as set in stone as they used to be. My house may not be cleaned when I had planned, but really, when was it? It's fun to think of what else He has planned for me!

That was my Dad's favorite lesson. I remember being so excited once when we got to skip school to go to a get-together, and I was shocked. He said then (and many other times): "People are always more important."
