God in Stitches

It was neat to see the way God took care of us through Amelie's stitches. Only an hour and a half before she fell, Isaac had specifically prayed for her safety and protection. When she hit the corner of the table, he just kept thinking of that prayer and was so thankful that it got her forehead instead of her eye!

When it was time to take the stitches out, we wanted to do it ourselves to save money (it's over one hundred dollars even with our health insurance). Isaac had taken his own stitches out of his face, so he was comfortable doing it, but I couldn't make myself hold Amelie still for him to do it. We went to our small group after trying and failing, and I was so upset about Amelie's pain and the prospect of trying to fit an expensive doctor's appointment somewhere into my busy day the next day. The more experienced parents of our small group jumped right in, sterilized tweezers and scissors, and took out the stitches with only one small cry from Amelie! (I stood out in a different room and cried.) When they brought her back to me happy and stitches-free, I couldn't believe it!

So there's the lesson: pray for your kid and join a small group at your church! They can perform mino medical procedures and save you money!

Now that's an angle on Small Groups I haven't heard before. For us, they brought us meals, raked our leaves, cleaned our house when my husband went through kidney failure. Small Groups rock!

She must be one tough girl. Matt almost passed out when his co-workers (nurses) removed stitches from his back a while ago. :-) Not that he was scared or anything, but he did start to fade and they had to move his chair-on-wheels to a more well-ventilated area...
