Funny Memory

I was reading my friend Jen's blog about meeting people at O'Gara's, and I remembered back when I was 20 and had just started teaching at Children's House Montessori. My co-workers were planning on "going out" after work and invited me along. I was thrilled to be invited and assumed that a bunch of preschool teachers going out would mean going out for dinner.

When it turned out they meant bar-hopping, I was shocked. Absolutely shocked. I had never been in a bar before (actually, I've only been once since - and that was in Salt Lake City when I was trying to get pregnant, so I don't know if it counted!). I hate the smell of smoke. I am not comfortable around drunk people. It was very interesting.

Preschool teachers! I had no idea we could be so exciting. (Thanks for the memory, Jen. We started off at O'Gara's.)

I promise that I went to O'Gara's to get dinner only. I didn't even have a soda/pop. You believe me, right?

So by "starting off" at O'Gara's, does that mean you actually went bar hopping instead of going home? If so, where are the pictures? They would be fun to see. I have never been bar hopping, although I have been in a few bars... good times. Glad it was a fun memory for you.

I said it was a "funny" memory - not a fun one! I left after the O'Gara's; I didn't actually go to the next bar with everyone.

And as for being in a bar while trying to get pregnant, I was in Utah to present at some national undergraduate research thing. I went to the bar with the friends I was praying for at the time. I had a soda. I also noticed that even though I tried to go along with them and enjoy them where they were at, I didn't fit in. The next night I stayed home and read.
