When to Run

It's funny how as a parent you quickly learn to recognize the intensity of your children's cries. You usually know when a little fall at the playground is nothing and you can brush it off, although every once in a while you get surprised by a bruise the next day. But you always know when it's big and you don't even remember dashing madly across the sand to get to your injured kid. When it's really bad, they do that silent scream followed by cries so shrill that they can't catch their breath. Aah, springtime.

I don't have any big injuries to report that got me thinking about this. Elizabeth had a good fall and bloody mouth on Monday, and Amelie got a small cut lip and bruised eye in separate falls today. I started carrying my first aid kit and an ice pack to the park with me after Elizabeth's fall, then left it in the car for Amelie's and got blood all over my shirt while I was going back to the car for it. I think that's going to be par for the course this spring and summer!
