It ended up being only 2.95 miles instead of a true 5K (3.1 miles). Elizabeth's goal was to run two of the miles and walk the rest, but she never felt tired so she ran the whole way! We let her set the pace and she finished in 33:10. She placed 148th out of 426 people.
We are proud to know the winner (and event record holder!) of the race, Ryan Hess, who attends out church. He finished in 17:33! It was fun to see him setting the pace all the way across the lake from us and to cheer for him at the awards ceremony.
Isaac and I were frustrated at the awards because they must have been tallied incorrectly. Elizabeth's age group was 5-7 year olds, but she was the first 5-year old to cross the finish line, and looking at the posted results today, it looks like she should have taken 2nd place in her age group. Oh, well. She doesn't mind, but her competitive parents sure do!
Isaac asked about it after the race, and they gave her a prize anyway, but we wanted to see her joy when her name was called in front of everyone.
I am so proud of Elizabeth.
