Fall Family Hike

On Labor Day weekend, we invited my parents to go on the "journey" Isaac had been promising Elizabeth. Her goal? Length. She wanted desperately to pack a tent, but we refused. We went back to the Mississippi River where we hiked on her fifth birthday and had a great time (after we packed everything back in the car, bought mosquito spray, and went back!).

It's fun to see how much confidence Elizabeth has gained this year.
Here's the whole crew together. I was very worried that the camera would fall out of the tree where I had wedged it while the timer counted down!

Isaac and Elizabeth inched bravely about 30 feet over the river on a huge fallen tree.

They got all the way out to the end!

My mom and dad are great troupers. On the way back, Mom found a bunch of big, flat rocks for her garden and charmed my dad into carrying them over a mile for her!

The girls were perfectly happy hanging out by the river, digging in the sand, and throwing rocks. So was Isaac, for that matter. You wouldn't believe how many rock throwing contests that man can devise on the fly!

Even with the crazy mosquitoes, it was a great journey!
