Family 5K

My family ran the St. Paul Schools Exercise Your Right 5K around Como Lake tonight, and by "family," I mean everyone! We braved the intermittent rain, got pretty wet, and had a great time.

Isaac and I each ran for a personal best. Neither of us was in personal best shape, but we finished decently in 23:57 (Isaac - in 34th place overall!) and 27:49 (me - 65th place overall).

Here's my red face a minute after I finished. I'm sure all the dampness is from the rain, not sweat!

My dad ran with Elizabeth. They finished in a very respectable 32:49 (102nd and 103rd place). Check out Elizabeth's determination as they hit the last quarter mile!

Elizabeth took 2nd place in the 5-7 year old age group, and won a water bottle and swimming pass. She was thrilled.

Dad took 1st place in his age group! He was very surprised. Imagine if he had run it for himself and not with a 6-year-old!

Perhaps the most impressive showing was my mother, who finished in 46:31 - 205th out of 310 total finishers! Not only did my mother run 3 miles, she ran it pushing Amelie in the jogging stroller and keeping up a steady stream of conversations with that talkative little kid! I am so proud of her!

It was a great race at a low price with some good swag and a fun, low-pressure atmosphere. I highly recommend it next year!

Seeing people cross the finish line of a race always makes me cry. Even looking at your pictures I tear up :) Way to go family!

What a great way to run! And that is a nice course - I did my first 5k there.
