Second grade, as I have been told repeatedly, is even better than kindergarten. The reasons? I'll let Elizabeth tell you.
1. "Ms. Lee is really, really, really nice."
2. "We have students, like me, who help the naughty ones behave, so it's calmer."
3. "Ms. Lee really makes everything we do really fun to do."
4. "I feel really grown up now that I'm a second grader. Every day when I'm in school, I feel either like a princess or a superhero because I feel so grown-up."
5. "Ms. Lee won't let us skip a day without reading AND writing. I mean, reading for about 30 minutes at least and writing for at least 10 minutes.
6. "We can go to the spider tree." [The recess boundaries were extended to include a climbing tree.]
7. "Second graders get to check out two books from the school library each week, instead of one like last year." [Why this is so exciting to my daughter who spent all summer taking home full bags of books each week from the public library, I have no idea.]
8. "Ms. Lee is the perfect level of strictness - not too strict, and just strict enough."
9. On their way out to recess, Elizabeth's class has to run along the track first to get some energy out. "We have to! Isn't that great?"
Doesn't that make you want to be a second grader too?
